Maestro 6.1 introduces many interesting features that improve usability in studio environment, and connection to external systems and data sources

Key Benefits
  • Full suite that can address all the graphic needs of a TV station
  • Modular and flexible architecture
  • Powerful and yet easy to use authoring and playout tools
  • Advanced tools for expert users that open many new posibilites
  • Brings many new functions to the already renovated Maestro 6 suite.

    New Features:
  • Orad Control (iPad application)
OradControl is an iPad application that enables the control of Maestro graphics by anchors from the studio. It is optimized for news, sports, and magazine, financial and weather forecast environments.
The application allows users to control newsroom or manually created playlists from the iPad. With OradControl, the presenter can directly play graphics on-air at any moment, making the relevant graphics to follow the flow of the conversation.
Detailed information can be found here:

  • Facebook and Tweeter as data sources
  • 2 new data source types are available in this version. Social networks have become a common source for information for broadcasters. Even some agencies are using them as an alternative to the traditional wired service. Maestro 6.1 can retrieve information from tweeter (tweets done by one user, or posted to one user) and facebook (wall information of users that enable this function). This information can be filtered, and connected to any object (including ticker), like any other datasource. In the case of tickers, user (journalist, editor, Maestro operator) can manually filter the entries that should be displayed on air

  • Support for interactivity
Maestro can now receive interactive callbacks from RenderEngine. Supported callbacks are: Tap, drag begin, drag update, drag end, hold begin, hold update, hold end, start free maninulation end free manipulation.
Interactions will trigger a track of a given item. A single item can contain several interaction tracks. The relevant track will be triggered only if the item containing it is on air.

  • Clip status callback
Maestro can now receive from RenderEngine information about the status of a give clip object. This allows for example planning an automatic reaction to a clip finishing playing or not being able to load. The simplest example are being able to hide an object that contains a clip once the clip finished playing; or playing different clips back to back.

  • 3Designer browser plugin
This new feature allows journalists editors and maestro operators to add to a rundown and play 3Designer scenes without going through the page creation process in PageEditor. This is intended as a shortcut in the mainstream workflow, that allows, for example, playing on air one graphic that was fully prepared in the graphic department, that does not require any change in data, and that will be used just a few times (so skipping PageEditor allows more agile production)

  • Control of VideoEngine
VideoEngine is a new option for HDVG platform that allows ingesting, storing and playing clips on a separated video output from the standard graphics output. This is the platform used for Blend.
Maestro can now control the VideoEngine and browse and play videos previously ingested

  • NLE plugin for Adobe premiere
A new NLE plugin has been added to the already extense list of supported NLE systems. Since Suite CS5 has been released, Adobe premiere is being adopted as main editing tool by many broadcasters. The workflow is nearly identical to this on Avid NLE: the editor will invoke an effect plugin, will browse/search for existing templates, select one of them, enter data to the template, and locally burn the effect into the video.

  • Improved Avid MC support (support for version 5.5.3)
The latest version of Avid Media Composer is now properly supported. Some features like including autoscale of graphics in the timeline, and a mode to increase render speed has been added.

  • Avid Command support, including automatic graphics triggering
Avid Command is a studio controller for Video and graphics elements. Users can now control from a single interface videos and graphic items. The specific advantage of integration with command is that graphics can be played automatically depending on the TC in and TC out defined inside the NRCS, following the background video timing.

  • Ability to restrict location for images and clips
The list of locations where users are allowed to browse for images and clips can now be defined in Maestro. This means that journalist, editors and maestro operators will only be able to select images and clips to be used on Maestro pages from a predefined list of locations. This feature prevents users to select images or clips from locations that are not accessible to the playout engine

  • Automatic asset moving
In certain environments, journalists using Maestro Newsproducer plugin inside their NRCS clients do not have access to the images storage used in playout. In this case, they will use an image storage location local to the newsroom area, and disconnected from playout environment, and when receiving a MOS rundown, Maestro will automatically move the images from their original location to a location accessible to the playout engine.

  • PageEditor new tools:
    Table tools
As an improvement in the template creation process, new tools have been added to PageEditor, being the most importants the tools to automatically arrange and sort controls as tables, and the ability to filter page controls by type in the properties list (i.e. show only text boxes, or only clips and image, etc)
    Page controls filter
For user’s convenience, now controls in a page can be filtered by type, what allows a quick selection of controls of a single type, to perform modifications.
    New timeline events
GPI out triggers can be sent from timeline
GPI triggers can be sent at any moment of the graphics timeline in Maestro. This is intended to trigger actions in 3rd party devices like routers, video mixers (i.e. open and close M/E) and video servers.

  • External commands can be sent from timeline.
Generic windows applications can now be triggered with predefined or variable parameters from within Maestro timeline. This means that any external application, including parameters, can be triggered from Maestro timeline
Extended scripting capabilities, and script wizard options
Per customer request, some extra features have been made available in the scripting and macro environments. For example, it is now possible controlling the visibility of objects, send external commands and GPI events, and refresh of data sources from a script.
More options have also been added to the script wizard, so now actions like “set variable” can be added to a script event using the script wizard instead of typing the script.

  • Legacy Features
    Scheduling tools
Scheduling tools allow playing automatically the content of one rundown, according to the predefined timing of each item. Scheduling of each rundown can be started independently, and can be looped. This is a legacy feature from Maestro 5.
    Frame accuracy support
When Maestro is used in MCR environment, controlled by an automation system, the option to support frame accuracy mechanism (to ensure that each automation command is executed exactly when expected, without even a single frame of incertitude. Frame accuracy can be configured independently for each automation device defined. This is a legacy feature from Maestro 5.
